A Debt Management Plan (DMP) is an agreement to help individuals repay unsecured debts, such as credit cards and personal loans.

It involves negotiating with creditors to lower monthly payments, often by extending the repayment period or reducing interest rates.

An individual voluntary arrangement (IVA) is an agreement with your creditors to repay part of your debt and have the rest written off.

During your IVA, providing you make the agreed payments, creditors aren’t allowed to charge interest or charges on your debts.

Scottish Solutions.

A trust deed is a formal, legally binding agreement used in Scotland to help individuals resolve unmanageable debt by transferring their assets to a trustee who manages the repayment plan. It typically lasts for four years, and, at the end of the term, any remaining unsecured debt may be written off, providing a fresh financial start for the debtor.

The Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS) is a formal debt management plan in Scotland that allows individuals to repay their debts through affordable, government-approved monthly instalments. It protects the debtor from legal action and interest charges while they work towards becoming debt-free.

Sequestration is a legal process in Scotland where an individual’s assets are taken by a trustee to pay off their debts, effectively declaring them bankrupt. It provides a fresh start by clearing most debts after a period of four years, though it can impact the individual’s credit rating and financial future.

The Minimal Asset Process (MAP) is a simpler form of bankruptcy in Scotland designed for individuals with low assets and minimal disposable income. It allows them to be discharged from most debts after six months, offering a fresh start with fewer formalities and lower costs than standard sequestration.
