Is Zinc Group Legitimate?
Yes, Zinc Group is a legitimate and fully authorised debt collection company, not a scam.
- Zinc Group is registered in England and Wales under the name Zinc Group Limited, with its registered office at Bridgeway House, Bridgeway, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire, CV37 6YX.
- Their parent company, Complete Credit Consultancy Limited, is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under firm reference number 707187. This means they are legally required to treat you fairly, communicate transparently, and follow strict conduct rules when collecting debts.
- They also a member of the Credit Services Association (CSA), holding membership #692. As a CSA member, they must adhere to the CSA Code of Practice and provide a declaration of compliance with statutory legislation, an additional layer of accountability beyond FCA regulation alone.
- On Trustpilot, Zinc Group currently averages 4.5 out of 5 stars across over 217 reviews, which is an above-average rating for the debt collection industry. While experiences can vary depending on individual circumstances, the overall feedback suggests they generally handle cases professionally and are willing to work with people to find a resolution.
That said, receiving contact from any debt collector can feel unsettling. If you believe they have treated you unfairly at any point, see the Complaints Procedure section further below.

How much debt do you have?
How Zinc Group Operates
When a creditor, such as a utility company, mobile provider, or bank, has been unable to recover an outstanding balance from a customer, they will typically pass that debt to a specialist collection firm.
This is where Zinc Group comes in. They are either assigned the debt to collect on the original creditor’s behalf, or in some cases, they purchase the debt outright at a reduced price and then pursue recovery of the full amount themselves.
Once Zinc Group takes on an account, the process usually follows a clear escalation path:
- Initial letter: You will receive a formal written notice outlining the amount owed, the original creditor, and a request for payment or contact.
- Follow-up contact: If there is no response, they will attempt to reach you by phone, email, or text message.
- Field agent visit: In some cases, a doorstep collector may be sent to your home. Note that this is not a bailiff and they have no special legal powers to enter your property.
- Court action: If contact continues to be ignored, Zinc Group may apply for a County Court Judgement (CCJ). A CCJ can affect your credit file and lead to further enforcement action such as an Attachment of Earnings Order.
The best course of action is always to respond early rather than ignore contact, even if you dispute the debt. Proactively engaging gives you far more control over the outcome.
How Did Zinc Group Get My Details?
There are two common ways Zinc Group may have obtained your contact information. The most likely is that your details were passed directly to them by the original creditor when the account was handed over for collection.
Alternatively, Zinc Group may use third-party data companies to locate and match your current contact details using information you have previously provided elsewhere, such as through online orders, loyalty programmes, or subscription services.
What to Do If You Received a Text Message from Zinc Group?
Receiving an unexpected text message about a debt can feel alarming, but it is a standard and legally permitted form of contact for debt collection agencies in the UK.
Zinc Group’s known text number is 07860 026741. If you have received a text from this number, it is Zinc Group attempting to reach you regarding an outstanding balance. They also contact people by phone from 01789405056. If you have seen either of these numbers and were unsure who it was, it is the same organisation.
Here is what to do if you receive a text from Zinc Group:
- Do not ignore it. Ignoring contact does not make the debt go away and may lead to escalated action.
- Do not make any payment immediately. First verify that the debt is valid and belongs to you.
- Reply or call back cautiously. Ask them to confirm the debt in writing before you agree to anything verbally.
- Request written proof. You are entitled under UK law to request full documentation of the debt, including the original creditor’s name and a breakdown of the amount owed.
- Check if it is statute-barred. If the debt is over six years old and you have made no payments or acknowledgements in that time, it may no longer be enforceable. See the Is the Debt Statute-Barred? section further below for more detail.
If you believe the text was sent in error or the debt is not yours, do not engage beyond requesting written proof and refer to the Zinc Payment Dispute section of this guide.
Where Does Zinc Group Operate?
Zinc Group operates as a nationwide debt collection firm, handling cases across England, Scotland, and Wales. While their primary registered office is located at Bridgeway House, Bridgeway, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire, CV37 6YX, their operational reach extends across the entire UK.
Their operational address is:

Additionally, Zinc Group is notably active in Glasgow and the wider Scottish market, pursuing debts on behalf of clients with customers in the region. If you are based in Glasgow or anywhere in Scotland and have been contacted by Zinc Group, the same rights and processes outlined in this guide apply to you.
Important Note: if your debt is Scotland-based, the statute-barred rules differ slightly, debts become unenforceable after five years rather than six under Scottish law.
Furthermore, Nottingham is another area where Zinc Group actively pursues collections on behalf of their clients. Residents across the East Midlands who receive contact from Zinc Group are subject to the same FCA-regulated process as anywhere else in England and Wales.
Regardless of where you are located in the UK, Zinc Group must follow the same FCA conduct rules and treat you fairly throughout the collection process.

They also work with businesses across retail, private parking, and other financial services. If you don’t recognise the Zinc Group name, it’s simply because the original debt was with one of their clients, not Zinc Group directly.

Legal Framework
Debt collection in the UK is governed by strict regulations set forth by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This means that Zinc Group must adhere to specific guidelines regarding how they communicate with debtors and what practices are deemed acceptable. For example, they are required to treat you fairly and provide clear, transparent information about your rights.
As a debtor, you are also protected under UK law from unfair practices such as through the Consumer Credit Act 1974. Familiarizing yourself with these rights is critical when dealing with any debt collection agency, including Zinc Group. Taking advantage of services such as Zinc credit management can further support you in navigating these situations effectively.

How to Choose the Right Payment Option For Your Zinc Group Debt
Once you’ve confirmed the debt and reviewed your financial situation, the next step is deciding on the best way to make payments. It’s important to approach this thoughtfully to settle the debt without putting unnecessary strain on your finances.
Here’s a breakdown of the main payment options:
1. Lump-Sum Payment
If you can afford to clear the balance in full, making a single lump-sum payment to Zinc Group is the quickest way to resolve the matter entirely. This brings all contact to an end and prevents any further action.
Before choosing this route, make sure that settling in full will not leave you unable to cover essential living costs. If it will, a repayment plan is a better option.
2. Repayment Plans
If a full Zinc Group payment is not realistic right now, you can negotiate a structured repayment plan to pay off the debt in smaller instalments over time. Zinc Group are generally open to this arrangement as it guarantees some recovery rather than none.
Any repayment plan should be based on what you can genuinely afford. So, never agree to an amount you cannot consistently meet, as missed payments can lead to additional fees or escalated action. Note that repayment plans are not guaranteed and terms will depend on your individual circumstances.
3. Full and Final Settlement
In some cases, Zinc Group may accept a one-off lump-sum payment that is less than the total amount owed as a full and final settlement, effectively writing off the remaining balance. This is worth exploring if you have access to a sum of money, whether through savings or help from a friend or family member, but cannot realistically pay the full debt.
When making a full and final settlement offer to Zinc Group:
- Put the offer in writing and clearly state it is being made as a full and final settlement
- Explain your financial circumstances honestly
- Make clear the funds are only available for a limited time, this encourages acceptance
- Do not make any payment until you have a written confirmation from Zinc Group that they accept the offer as full and final settlement
A partial payment made without this written agreement in place will not clear the debt and may simply reduce the outstanding balance, leaving Zinc Group free to continue pursuing the remainder.
Tips for Negotiating Repayment Terms
- Be Honest About Your Situation: Share a realistic overview of your financial circumstances. Honesty helps Zinc Group understand your position and makes it easier to agree on fair repayment terms.
- Offer What You Can Afford: Propose a payment amount that fits your budget. It’s better to start small and increase payments later if your finances improve than to overcommit and struggle.
- Stick to the Agreement: Only agree to terms that you can consistently meet. Failing to follow through on a repayment plan can complicate matters further, potentially leading to additional fees or collection attempts.
Choosing the right payment option depends on your financial situation and ability to commit. Whether you pay in full or opt for a repayment plan, being proactive and transparent with Zinc Group can help you resolve the debt efficiently.
What Should I Do If My Debts Are Huge And I Cannot Afford To Settle Them?
Sometimes, it may be difficult to agree on a payment plan with your creditor or debt collection agency, particularly if the payments are financially overwhelming.
In such cases, you might want to explore potential debt solutions in the UK. There are several options available in the UK, each with its own eligibility criteria. Choosing the right option can help resolve your debt issues, but the wrong one may make your financial situation worse.
However, it is essential to seek professional advice before committing to any debt solution. A debt advisor can help you assess your situation and guide you in selecting the most appropriate option.
Some of The Key Debt Solutions Available in England, Northern Ireland, and Wales:
- Debt Management Plan (DMP): An informal arrangement where you make monthly payments toward your debts. There is no legal commitment, but your creditors may agree to reduce interest or freeze fees.
- Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA): A formal agreement where you make regular payments to creditors over 5 or 6 years. The remaining debt may be written off, but this solution has strict criteria.
- Debt Relief Order (DRO): Designed for individuals in severe financial distress, this option freezes interest and allows a year of no payments, potentially leading to debt resolution.
- Bankruptcy: A formal legal process that can clear most debts if you are unable to repay them. Bankruptcy provides a financial reset, but it also has serious long-term consequences, including restrictions on your financial affairs and potential asset loss.
Debt Solutions Available in Scotland
- Protected Trust Deed: A formal agreement to repay part of what you owe over four years. The remaining debt may be written off afterward. It is legally binding and affects your credit rating.
- Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS): A government-backed scheme allowing you to repay your debts through a Debt Payment Programme (DPP) based on what you can afford. Interest and charges could be frozen, and creditors can’t take legal action.
- Sequestration (Scottish Bankruptcy): A formal insolvency process where most debts may be written off, but assets may be sold to repay creditors. It offers a fresh start but comes with serious consequences.
- Minimal Asset Process (MAP): A simplified form of bankruptcy designed for individuals with low income and few assets. It allows eligible debts to be written off after six months, provided the individual fully cooperates with the process. However, in practice, the process may take longer depending on the complexity of the case. MAP also offers lower fees and reduced administrative burden compared to full bankruptcy.

Can there be a Zinc Payment Dispute?
Disputes can arise for several reasons when dealing with debt collectors like Zinc Group. If you’re involved in a Zinc payment dispute, it’s important to understand the common scenarios and how to address them effectively:
Common Scenarios for Payment Disputes
- Incorrect Amounts: Debts may sometimes be miscalculated or inflated due to fees or interest charges that weren’t properly disclosed. This is a common trigger for disputes.
- Identity Theft: If someone has taken out credit in your name without your knowledge, this fraudulent activity must be addressed promptly with the appropriate evidence.
- Unenforceable Debts: Certain debts may be unenforceable, for example, if they are older than six years (statute-barred debts) or lack the necessary documentation to substantiate the claim.
Steps to Handle a Zinc Payment Dispute
If you believe the debt claim is inaccurate or unjustified, here’s how to address the situation:
- Gather Evidence: Collect all relevant documents or correspondence to support your case. This could include copies of letters, emails, bank statements, or proof of prior payments.
- Communicate Clearly: Draft a formal letter or email to Zinc Group explaining your dispute. Ensure the communication is clear, concise, and includes all supporting details or evidence.
- Request Proof: Under UK law, you have the right to request proof of the debt. Ask Zinc Group for documentation that verifies the debt, such as the original agreement or a breakdown of how the amount was calculated.
- Follow Up: If you don’t receive a response within a reasonable timeframe, follow up politely but persistently. Keep records of all communications for future reference.
Managing Zinc Payment Disputes
Dealing with a Zinc payment dispute can feel overwhelming, but a calm and structured approach can make all the difference. When faced with such a situation, it’s essential to stay composed and handle every interaction professionally.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to navigating disputes effectively.
First, you need to remain calm and avoid reacting emotionally during conversations or written communications. Maintaining professionalism will help you stay in control and ensure your concerns are taken seriously.
It’s also important not to make any payments or agree to a partial payment until the dispute has been resolved. This is because even a small payment can reset the debt timeline, making it enforceable again. Taking this step prematurely could complicate the situation further.
If you’re uncertain about how to proceed, don’t hesitate to reach out to debt support organizations such as Money Helper in the UK.
These organizations offer free, confidential advice and can guide you through the process, providing insights tailored to your specific case.
By taking a proactive approach such as gathering evidence, asking for proof of the debt, and clearly outlining your concerns, you can work toward resolving the dispute while safeguarding your financial interests.

FAQs
Is Zinc Group a Scam?
No. Zinc Group is a legitimate, FCA-regulated debt collection company operating under their parent company, Complete Credit Consultancy Limited (FCA reference 707187). They are also a registered member of the Credit Services Association (CSA #692) and hold a 4.5-star rating on Trustpilot. While being contacted by a debt collector can feel alarming, Zinc Group is a legally authorised organisation required to treat you fairly under FCA conduct rules.
Which Company Owns Zinc Group?
Zinc Group is a trading style of Complete Credit Consultancy Limited, their parent company. Zinc Group Limited is separately registered at Companies House in England and Wales, with its registered office at Bridgeway House, Bridgeway, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire, CV37 6YX. You may also encounter them trading as Zinc Collections, Zinc Commercial Recoveries, Zinc Recoveries, Zinc BPO, or Safe-Harbour, all part of the same organisation.
What Should I Do If I Receive a Letter from Zinc Group?
Do not ignore it. First, verify the debt is valid by requesting written proof from Zinc Group, including the original creditor's name and a full breakdown of the amount claimed. Review your finances to understand what you can realistically afford. Then contact Zinc Group to discuss your options, whether that is paying in full, arranging a repayment plan, or formally disputing the debt.
Can Zinc Group Negotiate My Debt Amount?
Yes, in some cases. Zinc Group may accept a full and final settlement for less than the total amount owed if you can demonstrate genuine financial hardship. They may also agree to a structured repayment plan. Neither outcome is guaranteed and will depend on your individual circumstances. But putting any agreed terms in writing before making payment is essential.
Can Zinc Group Take Legal Action Against Me?
Yes. If you ignore contact, Zinc Group can apply for a County Court Judgement (CCJ) against you. A CCJ affects your credit file for six years and can impact your ability to get credit, a mortgage, or a tenancy. Engaging early, even just to discuss options, significantly reduces the chance of the matter reaching court.
Will Zinc Group Send Bailiffs to My House?
Not without a court order. Zinc Group can send a doorstep collector to your home, but they have no legal powers to enter or seize belongings. Actual bailiffs can only be instructed after Zinc Group obtains a CCJ and applies for further enforcement through the court.
Can Zinc Group Force Me to Sell My Home?
This is extremely unlikely. While Zinc Group could theoretically apply for a Charging Order following a CCJ, courts are very reluctant to order a forced sale for consumer debts. It would require multiple stages of legal action and remains a rare outcome.
What is an Attachment of Earnings Order?
An Attachment of Earnings Order allows debt repayments to be deducted directly from your wages before you receive them. Zinc Group can only apply for this through the court after obtaining a CCJ. They cannot arrange this themselves without a court's approval.
Can I Just Ignore Zinc Group?
Technically yes, but it is not advisable. Ignoring contact does not clear the debt and can lead to a CCJ, an Attachment of Earnings Order, or doorstep visits. Zinc Group would rather agree an affordable repayment plan than pursue court action, but they will escalate if left with no alternative.
Will Zinc Group Eventually Stop Chasing Me?
Unlikely on their own, most of their contact is automated, making it low-cost to keep chasing. The most reliable ways to stop contact are paying the debt, agreeing a settlement, successfully disputing it, or demonstrating it is statute-barred.
Is My Debt with Zinc Group Statute-Barred?
Under the Limitation Act 1980, most unsecured debts in England and Wales become legally unenforceable after six years without payment or written acknowledgement, five years in Scotland. If you believe your debt qualifies, do not make any payment or acknowledge it in writing, as this resets the clock. Write to Zinc Group asking them to confirm the debt is not statute-barred before engaging further.
Can I Tell Zinc Group to Stop Contacting Me?
Yes, but only if the debt is not yours. Send a Cease and Desist letter via recorded delivery instructing them to stop all contact. If the debt is legitimately yours, Zinc Group retains the right to continue contacting you. Note that stopping contact does not prevent them from passing the debt to another collection agency.
